Does the device used by the notails to produce batches of notail children have a name, or is it just referred to as a baby maker?
Quote
RE: THE PIT (Fortuna Discussion Topic)
It is indeed just called "The baby making machine." Notails do not name anything creatively because it's a waste of time. (and they are also bad at naming things.)

It could be called the BMM but then people would have to ask what BMM stands for and all that nonsense, and to notails that just wastes time, it would be quicker to call it by what it is so they just call it as such.

A Baby Making Machine.

why don't notails give everyone a 100ft range if they can give it to Es?

RE: THE PIT (Fortuna Discussion Topic)
You likely want to avoid as many people as possible intercepting signals as possible. There's no block button on your signals (Except in a few cases, see Y class), sort of like using the Wifi at your local fast food restaurant, if someone really wanted to see what you were doing they could cause it's an unsucure network.

Notails typically use other notails to shuffle along signals farther than they naturally can but in that case they already know to be careful to, I don't know, send the passcode for the nuclear launch site via antennas.

Most of the notail types that have a high range are either likely traveling in the middle of nowhere so there's no one but their group to intercept
See E, and R class.

or they're important notails who are looking to talk to as many people as possible at the same time so they'd want all of their signals intercepted and relayed.
See L, C, O, and M class.

Notails with stronger signals can intercept more signals from farther away too.

But really the main reason notails don't have longer signal range all across the board is because they didn't need it. E, R, C, and M class need it because they're in areas where the people they're talking to might not have communication devices and the only way to locate another person is to signal them out.

That leaves the L and O class who have it because they're big leaders and need to tell people to move out the way or such.

Notails would have had phones by the time they started doing their big gene editing projects.

How do AIs perceive us and our "player screen"? Like, Artemis said she could sense there was a player around, but it seems like AIs can't directly perceive the screen unless they're already aware its there. Or is our screen just harder for the AIs to detect during "cut-scene vision"?

about the antennas: makes sense!

one more question: what exactly does "Lone E-class notails are only spotted on planets that are fairly low on the explore and conquer rating" in the e-class entry mean? is it just planets that aren't a high priority for notails?

Shouldn't the title of "[Cosmosdex] : Fauna and legendary open" be "[Cosmosdex] : Planets, Items, Traits, and Achievements open"?

@Artem1s
Yep. Not every planet is automatically on the notails "Hit it with a stick" rating. Sometimes you can find lone-e's on "Undiscovered" planets. This means the notail have already found it (and may have even claimed it) and are just minorly scouting it out.

What's cool (Plot wise not like, in general, in fact it's horrible) lone-e's normally represent themselves as an alien who accidentally crash landed on the planet and is stuck there forever because "no one knows I'm suppose to be here" to the locals to garner pity and interest.

Saying your species which is much more high tech than they are know you're on this planet and might be coming back to you would alarm savvy people so acting like you're just a dumb everyday dude who went where they weren't suppose to makes it seem less deadly.

Sadly it's actually a very bad idea to kill a Lone-E as if the Lone-E fails to report in at their required time the planet gets flagged as possibly hostile and more notails get sent in to check what happened to the person they sent out which as you can guess can lead to total take over.

Lone-E classes are very peaceful as long as not attacked and are very interested into intergrating themselves with the cultures of other people and traveling the whole planet.

If the planet doesn't have anything the notails want Lone-Es can actually be world changing to the planet as the Lone-E will likely start asking for certain tech, giving it to the species and teaching them how to use it which can greatly improve the lives of everyone on the planet. (Ex: Antibiotics)

So that's pretty neat, and if that species ever gets to space the notail will wink and go "Hey you should join our side, remember when we checked out your planet to see if we should kill everyone on it for supplies gave you that thing that improved the lives of billions on your planet? even though that should just be common courtesy?" Yeah.

You know, except for the part that every planet checked by a Lone-E that does have supplies they want will be mauled as much as possible which sure is nice.

@Yaveker
I'll swap it to partial app opening until species apps reopen in 2~3+ months.

I like how Macciu tries to play the Song of Double Time from Majora's Mask on page 2291.
Also I'm not sure but I think Geko's dream makes a reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

RE: THE PIT (Fortuna Discussion Topic)
Hey how do you decide what gets selected in situations like this, where we can vote for multiple options? Do you like, pick the 3 that get the most votes, or the specific set that gets the most votes? Or do you just sort of play it by ear and go with what seems like itll work for most people?
Quote
RE: THE PIT (Fortuna Discussion Topic)
If I call a vote (I always make it clear when it's a vote, such as there being a few options but only one can win) then it's "democratic".

If I don't call a vote then it is "dictatorial" aka I just look at what everyone says and I pick one. That doesn't mean that multiple people seconding each other doesn't sway me. If I see that I tend to pay more attention to a suggestion, but there's always still a chance I'll go "Nah. I'm going with the one that has only a single person vouching for it."

Typically I find myself being swayed by "We should get this because-" "We shouldn't get this because-" suggestions when it comes to stocking up because sometimes suggestions can get all over the place and I'll just cling to the suggestion that looks like what it knows it's doing.

Rule of comedy is also powerful. I have a feeling there's a good chance we're getting at least 1 bunch of bananas even though they're useless over expensive rations (Which I do not trust) because it's funny.

Plot > Comedy = Cool > Random

RE: THE PIT (Fortuna Discussion Topic)
so what you're saying is that if we're buying rations on a notail planet, hypothetically, and someone explicitly asks (? related question), it has a higher probability of being picked because of the rule of comedy in an area where plot isn't a heavier focus

(I'm a bit disoriented, sorry if the question is a bit confusing. it boils down to "so sometimes a command is picked for the sake of a good meme")

RE: THE PIT (Fortuna Discussion Topic)
I actually avoid memes as much as possible unless they're subtle. Going full meme is easily the best way for me to reject a suggestion.

Memes are funny because they're inside jokes that the world knows. The issue with this is that in a few years, most of the world has moved on from the meme and no longer cares about it, meaning the context for the meme is no longer easy to find for those who have never heard of it.

This makes for very bad reading later on and is overall just not very funny. "In house memes", though I don't like calling them memes they're just jokes and call backs on the other hand tend to be much better. Things like "Delicious pesticides" from notail quest or "I absolutely know how to read a simple X (She did not know how to read a simple X.)" are better cause the context of the original joke is within the comic itself. (I would mention better jokes but I can't think of them right now.)

Plot > Comedy = Cool > Random >>> Do it for the Meme, aka "YOLO"

Comedy does not equal meme, but meme can be comedy.

Edit: Even though I say this please suggest whatever you wish. Suggestions don't always or even mainly have to be super serious and always trying to forward our motives. As long as you're having fun that's all that matters, and like I said before these aren't hard and fast rules they're just very loose ones. I'm sure I've picked up one or two meme suggestions in the past despite this. Like the fact that Nicko likes bowling.

Would fortuna as a game be more like paper mario or wholly 2d? Also how much control does a player have over the character they're controlling, do they have direct control over the characters fine movements, point and click or does the player say something to do and the character will act it out?

What stat does psychic powers use?

Also what would Hypnos think of a species that can shape dreams, but also helps people sleep?

RE: THE PIT (Fortuna Discussion Topic)
Xmancer says it's based on intelligence, strength and endurance, while mind control seems to only be based on intelligence. I couldn't tell you what the other psychic powers are based on, though.

There also seems to be a skill component to it. Slate was less skilled at pyromancy than his food agressive cousin, and Kelda was able to mind control Latta even though she was about as smart as your average housecat at that point. (Though that might just be the perks of malevolence in action.)

Would it be possible to play Fortuna without any player input controlling the crewmembers? If so I could imagine a player livestreaming an "Idletuna".
