forgot to post this here:

route: http://tinyurl.com/y8am6q25 goes on i30, i40, i65 and i71. there’s a section in memphis where the video got corrupted, but I had footage going in the other direction so I just reversed that to patch what was missing. Also missing about 80 miles on i40 between jackson tn and dickson tn because it got too dark.

notice how the trees change seasons the further you go north

well i let other things i want from life/ want to do get a bit away from me by trucking for so long. working as a company driver means you have long hours and don't get much say in where you go or what else you do, so you have to put a lot of other plans on hold. I mean it paid well enough and all and has unique perks to it, but at the same time you don't get to do a lot of things that other people do/rely on. I'd like to work on aspects of myself that i've haven't been able to over the last few years before I go back, if I do. And if I do, i'd probably get my own truck or sommin, mostly because i want to be able to choose where I go instead of getting stuck down south in summer and north in winter all the time

music: Vinícius de Moraes - Samba da Benção from the 1967 album Vinicius

was stopped at border for a bit longer but I cut it. the border guard asked if i had any produce which I said no to at first bc I didn't think was a big deal but they sensed my hesitation and I was like "i have kale" and they were like "answer truthfully because if a guard decides to search you and they find citrus that's illegal and you'd get a several hundreds dollar ticket"

the last one i had i only had for 5 months and it would give at least one new problem a month; the day i turned it in the radiator was all leaking and broke so maybe it is in truck hell, the place for mischievous trucks who do nothing good.

Have you driven the 401 in Canada at all? I've heard lots of horror stories about that highway.

it's about 850 km long, but only 100-150km of that are bad, the rest is really boring.

but that 100km (60 miles) is, according to wiki, the busiest highway in north america and you do not want to drive on it during weekday work hours. that's kind of what'll happen if you have a metropolitan area of 6.5 million people and basically only one major expressway to serve it. the 401 was made a lot wider with side by side feeder and express lanes to make up for this. the 407 is a bypass, but it's a toll road so through-freight traffic going between places in michigan, ontario, and quebec or new york are going to try to avoid paying tolls so you get to stay on the busy road.

there's another highway called the queens expressway that comes from niagra falls/buffalo ny and meets up at toronto but east west traffic is mainly just the 401. the traffic is bad but i wouldn't say it's uniquely the worst. some texas highways, east coast us highways, west coast highways and chicago highways have been worse. when you have to get from point a to b but there's a giant city in the way you get to practice being patient.

montreal, in which the same highway runs through it but is called something different (it's called autoroute 20) is about as bad. the road actually becomes not-a-highway and has traffic lights at some point so you have to turn off onto another belt highway if you want to avoid that but my gps didn't work in canada.

Are you sure Trucks aren't actually big, snorting, stamping animals, a little like Buffalo? I think it's a myth that people are inside them.
