[bg] now does the same thing as [background]!

For the tagging system, I did find this - it does bother me somewhat that there's no added option for the user to opt out of getting tagged, but at any rate we have the technology. If folks could chime in on whether they think it's a good feature to add?

being able to opt out of being tagged in a specific forum. in case, I don't know, we don't want 1000000000 messages when we're tagged in hawkspace.

Which will be often.

I would not like to be pinged so I wouldn't want it unless I could opt out

as consolation, right now you can namesearch yourself

edit: well, reading it now it gives you the option to send a PM. in that case i'm neutral on it, just no one send me pms for a ping

Is a tag for showing alt text a thing that is doable?

One option says: "Allow tagging only for certain user groups."

Maybe we could do a trial run where users sign up if they want to be part of the "tagable" group. Maybe with a thread on this subforum?

Are users able to be part of multiple groups in MyBB? If not , then this might not be the best option.

A few minor/convenience-related suggestions (idk if you have enough power over the website to implement these):

Have the banner link to the forum index, so I don't have to click on the tiny forum index button.
Display pronouns and/or gender under users' avatar so you don't have to go to their page and check
Show the date when a thread was created below the thread title

None of these are really important, they're just things that were on MSPAF that I thought could make navigating the site a little easier.

Original posted date always felt like a useless line of clutter which stretched the index page to me (if you're interested in when a thread was originally posted, you can check the date on the first post)
And people can list their pronouns in sig or custom title or location (I personally wouldn't want to have pronouns for myself displayed by default) At most if that's made a displayed option it'd be an optional "display pronouns" just like how a forum title is optional, and that's functionally the same as what people can do now by including preferred pronouns in sig or title.

Fair enough. Those were just some things I thought might be useful, I wasn't expecting them to be implemented tbh.

On dead broken forums, on the forums index list to click on threads, it'd say
______
SPENCER'S ADVENTURE
Topic originally posted by Bumbler, on April 3, 2013
______
The Bowls of Thunder Alley [Ri examines the clue]
Topic originally posted by queenofmean, on December 1, 2013

or something along those lines. Or maybe not i may be completely wrong

also i mgiht want to disable signatures

implementing pronoun things as an additional optional field would work fine

but on the other hand this way works fine too because there's a field to put it into which is more private to start with (for those who don't want it displayed with every post), and then from there allows ways for it to be more visible. Maybe keep the pronouns-in-profile as they are now, but enable a "show beneath avatar" option? I dunno how the coding works

it's up to others, my bit about what you can do now are ways to do it in the meantime

I had a look over what I'm capable of doing with my skills+access and the answer is "none of the above."

There are MyBB mods for alt text tags on images, but they require installation.
I can change the banner image, but can't find where to even change the text that links to the IRC let alone make the image into a hyperlink. I'd guess it's somewhere in the templates but I'm a really fun combination of stressed and stumped?
Similarly I can add more custom profile fields but they'd only show up on user profile pages. I'm not sure how to change the content visible on the left of everyone's posts. My preference is for pronouns to stay on user pages unless there's a way that lets me state specifics on my profile but check an option so that doesn't show up next to my posts.

These are all things I can talk to Pinary about re: feasibility, so i'll do that.

It might be prudent to put an image limit on posts. Because one question from someone followed by me pasting an image an effective total of 1598 times later until running into the character limit, well...

Are you seriously going to use your own behaviour as an example for why we should baby-proof the forum?

Sorry, I should have made it clear; that was only in the post-preview for a thread, because I know better than to make a however long post that would have been. Someone was curious as to the image limit on Eagle Time, but when I tried to see how many for them, that's when I found out that it didn't exist. I'm more concerned that someone might not have the sense to restrain from posting a hundreds-of-images long post.

if someone doesnt have the sense not to post a billion images then thats a mild inconvenience for a while and then it goes away like, the postmaking contest thread has had a few obnoxious and utterly un-navigable posts and we havent banned the formatting that made it possible. maybe someday eagle time might need an image limit but right now i think everyones pretty On Level enough that it would be a bit superfluous like, if someone really wanted to, they could do the same damage with one, fifty, a hundred, or a billion images

Nobody is going to post three million images by accident, and if someone intentionally wants to be an ass via the medium of images they can be perfectly annoying just by posting a single one that is very large.
There's no real way to implement an image limit that would prevent "abuse" (which currently exists only on a theoretical level) which doesn't get in the way of people using this forum for creative projects like games or adventures, so the solution is to socially discourage this behaviour rather than mechanically prevent it.

The [bg]/[background] tag doesn't seem to work on text that is aligned, unless the [bg] tag is within the [align] tag.
